Modern Family Room Design in Folsom, CA, Highlighting Geometric Prints
The modern family room design Keely Hersh, owner and designer of Right at Home Interiors in Placerville, CA, achieved for her client, Valerie highlights many geometric patterns. Let’s see how Keely approached this design project to create a truly beautiful finished room design.
Beautiful Fabric Blends with Stunning Accessories for a Sophisticated Look
Keely and Valerie found the valance fabric when they were shopping. When they saw it, they knew they just had to have it. However, they were told it was discounted and that there was none left. This did not deter Keely. She hunted for it until she found just enough yardage to use for the project.
After selecting the fabric, Keely made valances out of the fabric with a streamline style, banded at the bottom with pewter taffeta. To complement the window treatments, Keely chose a metal candle holder/art piece to fit the niche over the fireplace. This piece fits the space so well that it gives the impression it was built in.
Custom Window Seat Pillows and Seat Cushion Complement a Modern Valance
This window seat really shows how to mix patterned fabrics. To create the custom bench pillows, Keely used a large scale stripe, one main print and solid colored velvet. The pillows all sit on a fun bench cushion Keely created using an octagon print.
Unique Modern Details Add a Fun Twist
The star of the drapery hardware is the cylinder finial with bubbles suspended in acrylic. This was another of the details Valerie fell in love with for her room. The rod is from Design Elements Metropolitan collection. Keely used the smooth steel pole, plain rings, basic bracket and the cylinder finial all in the Brush Brass finish.
Smart Installation Adds Drama and Height to a Modern Family Room Design
Keely mounted the custom valances at ceiling height to make the windows look taller and give the room a lift. Keely also had enough of the fabric to make functional draperies for the sliding glass door.
For another chic detail, Keely added a light box with amber glass in the corner of the room. This piece adds height and another geometric pattern to the modern family room.
Valerie, who is newly retired, is thrilled to be able to enjoy her retirement in her newly designed modern family room.
